Sharing the Truth about Christianity
Christianity is the world’s largest religion, comprising almost one-third of Earth’s 8 billion people. In some parts of the world, Christianity is growing rapidly while in others, it has declined. Here in the US, Christianity remains healthy relative to much of the Western world, but there have long been signs of decline.
Over the past couple of decades, Christianity has, in the West at least, has been under societal and intellectual assault, particularly in the media of the popular culture. As a result, many people have developed an inaccurate and unfair view of Christianity, and have either abandoned it, or have chosen not to explore it.
Many of those people hold quite negative views about Christianity, seeing it—and many of its adherents—as narrow-minded, rules-based, hypocritical, anti-scientific, simplistic, and a whole host of other unflattering adjectives. Still others believe that the books of the Bible are poorly supported historically, or simply invented.
In some cases, Christians themselves have acted in ways that have helped to reinforce these impressions. Too often, well-meaning evangelists, who attempt to share their faith with others, do so in ways that actually push people away.
The sad thing is, because of all the misinformation that is out there, millions of people are ignoring a beautiful religion that holds the keys to their own salvation. In some small way, this blog exists to help turn the tide.
You Are Invited
The truth about Christianity is far different than many realize. It’s based on love and forgiveness. It has an unparalleled philosophical and intellectual foundation. The New Testament is well-supported historically. Its teachings are not anti-scientific. Rather, Christian teaching goes hand-in-glove with scientific discovery. In fundamental ways, Christianity is unique among the world’s religions. It offers a wonderful, open invitation to all people. Please don’t ignore that invitation. If you do, you don’t know what you’re missing!
This blog, Logic & Light, explores all of these points. For those who are curious about Christianity, or are seeking to learn more about Christ and how He can make a difference in their lives, this blog is here to help. It’s also here to help committed Christians enhance their knowledge.
What This Blog Does
Our mission is to help bring people closer to Christ by
- Laying out a rational and persuasive case for belief in the Holy Trinity of God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit
- Outlining why the Gospels and other biblical writings are true and well-supported (often by answering critics who claim that the books of the Bible are not well-supported by historical or archaeological evidence)
- Differentiating Christianity from other faiths
- Explaining some of the basic teachings of Christianity so that readers—especially those who may be new to the faith or who are just exploring it—can gain a better understanding and/or apply lessons to their own lives.
It’s important to note that the writers of this blog are not ordained ministers. Rather, they are motivated laypeople doing the best they can to share their faith with others. Posts in this blog that deal directly with Christian doctrine are, however, vetted by ordained personnel who have agreed to serve as editorial advisors. This is just to make sure that the authors don’t accidentally get something wrong or unintentionally misrepresent any teaching or belief.
What This Blog Does Not Do
Logic & Light explores the core truths of Christianity, and works to distinguish it from other faiths. Doing so inevitably leads to comparisons of various belief systems and the author’s expressions of why Christianity is correct. However, it is not the blog’s intent to offend anyone of a different faith, and its writings will always treat other belief systems with respect.
Nor does Logic & Light compare different “types” of Christianity to determine which denomination is “correct.” Ultimately, denominations are man’s creation, not God’s, so the authors focus on the core beliefs of universal, biblical Christian doctrine without getting into such debates.
